I'm beginning to think that the only bikes suitable for the general state of our roads are those with at least some claim to off-road capability, even if, like Sheb's Scrambler, it's only notional. You can't soak up bumps with only an inch or two of travel. The downside is a high riding position, which can definitely be a worry for those of us vertically challenged.
