Replace rear spring or shock?

So my rear tire tended to slip more than usual and I suspected that it had to do something with the rear suspension.
Measured the sag and and preload needed to increase.
When fixed everything was ok.
The problem is that preload wont take any more so I guess the rear spring needs to be replaced because it has weakened.
My options as I see it,is buy a new spring,service the shock and thats all.
Or replace the rear shock with a used one(Falco and daytona ones match as I have read)
I can't afford a new one.
So what do you suggest me to do?
I had no problems with the rear shock,it was ok for me.
With just the spring will it improve?

Other shocks can be a cheap way to solve suspension issues but only if they can be made to fit without major surgery and they are not as shagged as your originals anyway!

So what is the actual problem you are having with the rear?
If you have used all the thread on the shock so you cant add preload then it makes you suspect the spring is knackered. I would be surprised by the spring weakening that much unless it has done a very large mileage or has been subject to heavy use?
Why not just get a new spring?
If all else is fine with the rear then thats an easy and cheap answer I would say.

I think I still have an original rear shock from mine (replaced with a hagon unit after the seals blew). It had only done 3k miles when I replaced it so the spring should be perfect. For that matter so is the shock if it had new seals put in!

Thats exactly what happened!
The bike has 32000kms and I was also shocked that the spring weakened so fast.
So you think that it's better to just replace the spring?
From a search I did ,I found out that Hagon make springs and they take into consideration the rider's weight.

Since you have the original shock,do you think you could send me the spring?
Of course not free,and also postage will be charged on me(I live in Greece)

Hey, Hagon do a customised service (my rear shock is one of theirs) and its good rebuildable kit although not particularly fancy it does what its supposed to.

If you are happy with your shock and how it performs it seems the easiest and cheapest solution is replace the spring.

They can probably supply you with a spring that should fit your shock and at least thats a new item.

I could take the spring off my spare shock and send it to you, obviously at a price (I`m not greedy!) and cover the cost of P&P.

It came off a Vraptor 1000 2005 if that makes a differance (I dont think so)

Is it a 650 you have and is there any differance between the rear shocks of both bikes?

Raptor 650 and Raptor 1000 has same suspension in front and back.

If anyone's got some specs on the standard spring i have a spare wp spring suited for heavy rider. I think it is about same size as an ohlins spring, but may just fit the rap if anyones interested.

Mate is there any chance you could measure your stock spring, i would be interested to see if the spare springs i have , an Ohlins and a WP , would work and especially the inside diameter of the spring

Yes the 650 ans 1000 apparently have the same springs.
Hyperpro gives the same code for both.

Shock now stripped and numbers are;

ID - 56mm
OD - 79mm
Extended length - 195mm
Weight of spring - 1055g

I dont have a micrometer of anything accurate so these are relying on a steel rule and my dodgy Mk1 eyeball!!!

If you want to use a slightly shorter spring then its possible as that will only lower the height which can easily be compensated by jack up triangles on the linkage?
