Oil Preference ???

Post by pmogs »

What does everone use on their Raptor 1000's , Semi Synthetic or Fully Synthetic ???

I've always used Semi Synthetic in the past 10w-40 . Motul , Castrol , Putoline , Rock oil , Silkolene ..., what ever's the best deal ...............

Due to change the oil on the Raptor this week & have found some Fully Synthetic in the garage , i forgot i had !!!

Castrol R4 Superbike 5w-40 & Shell Ultra Advance 10w-40 ...

Wondered if either of these would be suitable ???

Thank's for your reply's .

Main reason i asked is that i'm sure someone has told me , or i've read somewhere not to use Fully Synthetic in a TL 1000 engine coz it causes clutch slip !!!

Called down to M&P's today (only 4-5miles away) , picked up some Putoline Super DX 4 Semi Synthetic Oil (came with a free Hiflo HF138 oil filter) ,
Picked up a genuine Suzuki oil filter as usual , to be on the safe side ...

Halfords supposed own.....

It's good name branded stuff in a cheap bottle. Can't remember which brand it is though!
Both the SV and Raptor run on it fine.

Can't use anything but posh castrol in the ZZR. It's a bit of a fussy puss.

Always use the correct numbers, ie 10w40 motorcycle oil. Or whatever your bike is recommended to use.

I dont think fully synthetic will cause clutch slippage, i used to think so, but only if you already have clutch problems

I agree, I've thought that fully synthetic is the best oil you can get ?

Nop... It depends how do you drive, depends on oil brand (there are semi-syn oils better than fully-syn)!

the prime consideration is use what is recommended by the manufacturer!

The temp range isnt as important as long as its within your range of use, but using the wrong type (mineral/semi/fully) can cause you other problems and sometimes dependant on engine ......................damage!!

The designers make an engine with a specific type of oil in mind for best performance, some engine can cope with any type of oil and some cant.............................. :retrophrenology: :laser:

Another reason for semi synthetic / fully synthetic ...............

M&P's ... Putoline Super DX4 semi synthetic 10w/40 , 4 litres ... £26.99 (with free Hiflo oil filter) ,

Busters (same company as M&P'S) ... Shell Advance Ultra 10w/40 fully synthetic , 8 lirtes ... £50.99 ...

Which work's out near as dam it £25.50 for 4 litres !!!!!!! & free postage on both ...........
