Chain length

Post by raptor001 »

Hello,

I'm getting my chain replaced but I don't know its length. It is a 2000 V Raptor 650. The manual says the chain is 5/8" x 5/16". Does anyone know what that means? Any recommendations on which chain and sprockets go best?

Hi! The dimensions given are pitch (Length between links) and link width (Internal) - the Imperial dimensions hark back to when Britannia ruled the waves, and mm hadn't invaded (Can't think of anything else that does that, Oh yes, tyres!!) It should be quite easy to find chain, just look for your size, & count the links (Mark 1 using a felt tip, and count 1, by 1, then recheck!!
Get the best chain (X-ring, or similar) you can afford, as V-twins are hard on them - For the price, I'd advise fitting new sprockets if there is ANY sign of wear (Pittance compared to the chain)

Hi, thanks for that.
In the manual, it states

transmission sprocket : z15
rear wheel sprocket : z45
Ratio : 3

Does anyone know what they mean?

15t engine, 45 tooth rear, ratio is 15/45 ie 1:3. Soory, can't confirm sizes, as I've got the '1000', but - back to the felt tip - soon counted.

If I am correct 5/8 x 5/16 is a 525 type chain (5/16=2,5 eights) :? just like ducati uses on monster
a rap thou has 5/8 x 3/8 (530)

The one I bought was supposed to fit the Hedgeabuser too - but tis too small a centre for the Raptor

Annoyed with myself cos i now have a lovely new DID chain on an old sprocket, but the suzuki clutch throw thingy (identified as FUCT when the front sprock came out) has arrived 8) and should fit, as the last one was a suzuki item too - is it just me that wears all this sort of stuff out?
