Out for a ride...
Out for a ride...
Who's out and about on their bike this weekend.... ? Seems a lot of bikes have now been put to bed for the winter.. which is kinda a shame when you get those dry bright (admittedly bloody freezing) days like today...
I've been using mine just to play in town... nowhere to go but fun for a bit of high speed filtering in the Lancaster rush hour!

Don't think I'll be using mine now until next year unless really necessary. Tax ran out last month so I'll declare it SORN and use the pennies towards a new downpipe for the cage
2001 Cagiva Raptor 1K, black with copper flake, matching wheels with polished rims, matris steering damper, braking wavy disks, digi gear indicator, SV1K belly pan, tail tidy, clear clutch cover, ccc titanium cans, LED rear light.
Wish I could declare it SORN but I have nowhere to keep it but the road and last time the tax expired it was towed away and cost me a fortune to get it back.. so as its out there.. I may as well use it!...
I just spray it with a whole can of wd40 every week in the vague hope of stopping it rusting away...

Man what a weekend!
I got my bike back from the mechanic after getting it Dyno tuned and fully serviced.
$550.00 ( including air filter, exhaust shims, full synthetic oil, oil filter and several dyno runs] later its running great, he sorted the lean fuel air mixture I knew it was suffering from.
It launches much better now and it picked up 4 HP for a grand total of 105 at the rear wheel.
105 is bang on for a Raptor so I was pretty happy.
The weather at this time of year is usually great but yesterday it was stunning, awesome, truly magnificent!
So with a fresh bike I made a quick ring around and got together a bunch of guys (and Girl) for a ride.
At 7.00 am Yesterday morning the following met at a local servo for a ride
Max – 998
Andy –GSXR1000
Shelley – VTR 1000
Andre – 996
Dave – V Mille
Tim – VTR1000
Rod – VTR1000
John – VFR800
Mick – V Mille
The weather was truly magnificent!
Not a cloud in the sky, dead calm and fairly cool at 24 degrees when we left with a maximum of 32 predicted.
We headed up the coast for the 40 km run to Port Douglas.
The traffic was fairly light so it was “Spirited” to say the least.
We went in to “Soul and Pepper” a little café right on the water front in Port for a great breakfast. (Incidentally it was voted Best regional El fresco Café 2006 in the Qld restaurant awards]
After a good hour of relaxing and telling lies we picked up another mate, James, on his BMW R1150R roadster for the ride up the Rex range, another stop to tell more lies at the look out and on to Mt Malloy for a drink.
The ride from the lookout on the Rex to Mt Malloy is fast and open with big flowing corners ideal for a big sports bike, unlike the tight Rex range where my Raptor excels.
Some thing for ever body!
Another stop at the Ellis Beach Bar and Grill on the coast just north of Palm Cove and home.
That run was very typical for a Sunday Morning with many, many bikes doing it.
When you sit at Ellis Beach the bikes just keep streaming past.
Even the Bar and Grill is very bike friendly.
Serge, the owner, has a 996s, a Monster and a Harley, usually on display in a corner of the café section.
He also has prime position designated “Bike only” parking area
It’s a 210 km round trip on some of the best roads for motorcycling in the country, combine that with excellent company, magnificent weather, drop dead gorgeous scenery, a most excellent café and what more could you ask for!.
Could Sunday possibly have got any better?
Well yes.
At 11.00 pm on sunday night some mates came came over to watch the GP.
Who would have thought!
An Aussie gets his first ever MotoGP win in a one off ride, Rossi falls off and remounts while Hayden hangs on to win the world title!
I may be a bit bleary eyed this morning as I got to bed at 1.30 am but damn yesterday was worth every second of it.

Well, I'll be out on mine this weekend because I'm picking mine up from the garage where it has been this week hopefully being fixed. It's giving plenty of power apparently but whether it's fixed its problems or not is another matter.
I tend to ride all through the year unless it's icy/snowy or torrentially raining.

Jeffgre it sounds like you had a truly great sunday
Bolero,I usually give it a full covering with WD40 or similar and then don`t wash till spring as dirt clings to WD and stops the salt getting in but as I am stripping it this winter I ain`t bothered yet.
Hopefully it is gonna get a bit of a makeover before next spring
Might post before, during and after pics if I can get it all done
Amanda I hope all is well with yours as it would be a shame for you not to experience one in fine fettle as they are great fun

Picked my bike up from the workshop today, so will be out tomorrow .
Weather here in Kent,England is fabulous at the moment, cold but bright, so I am going to make the most of it.
I use it all winter though, I just make sure I wash it down and re-lube after each ride.
Time consuming but I can't live without it .

So many motorcycles, so little money!
Like JimBo I'm using mine all year, usually get out of the office at lunch time to ride a few miles for fun. Weathers been quite kind so far.
In fact just got back to the office to be greeted by my boss saying that I could be heard coming at least half a mile away!! Well you can imagine how that made me feel

I'm using mine all through the winter, too poor for a car, too stuck up for public transport and too lazy for a bicycle.
I had the garage sort out electrical troubles so now it's running more reliably than my girlfriend's car.
Vast amounts of GT-85 has kept it looking pretty good so far, no visible corrosion yet.
I finally invested in a decent Dianese winter suit after using summer leathers and several jumpers all through last winter. Without the waterproofing and extra warmth I wouldn't ride through another winter.
They were thoroughly tested thisevening when I had to get through 8 inches of floodwater or face a 10 mile detour.

A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
Unfortunately it isn't fixed yet I am still considering getting rid of it and will be looking at trade ins very soon. Not sure what to get yet but I don't trust it any more and need rid.bolero wrote:Hope your bike is fixed Amanda, I read somewhere else that you might consider getting rid if not... which'd be a shame....
Maybe if it is you could let us know what it was cos mine definitely displays similar symptoms to yours, tho neither as extreme or as often...
Steve
I did take it somewhere and they couldn't find anything wrong with it but got an extra 3 bhp from it by tweaking the mapping. Whooppee. What's the point of that if it was still doing the same as when I took it in? We fettled some more and almost got it right - no surging or anything and then on the ride home it just got worse and worse again.
I'm going to take it back and get it put back to how it was before the 2nd lot of messing and sell it like that. Ive got a piece of paper saying it's 100% fixed you see so it's obviously all in my head
