Sold the xtra

Well chaps, at least those who know me, I bought my second raptor in the form of a lovely Xtra (ex Andyr), in March of this year. However temptation came to haunt me once more as my eye started to wander and my heart began to yearn for pastures new.

Rather than indulge in more exotic italian machinery, the Benelli TNT was test ridden and doted upon for many a day, it was finally the lure of a Germanic type that made me sell my soul to the devil.

I am a true devotee to twin cylinders, and I have owned many of them, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Buell, Aprilia, Cagiva....not for me the bland sewing machine boredom of 4 cylinderland. So it was essential to retain this configuration.

So which mark i heare you cry, BMW, KTM ? alas nay it is a far more humble breed, a beast which harkens from the former East Germany, and whose roots are steeped in clouds of burning 2-stroke oil.

And the Bike ? a 1000cc 2 cylinder, Streetfighter style of course. I have to say, it is the best machine I have ever owned not better because the raptor was in any way poor but this has a fairing that actually works, 113hp, all day 2 up comfort and is rarer even than the reptilian raptor. and the handling is superb.

Long may bikers (with the exception of raptor owners) spurn the fringe marques. Let them follow the masses and buy their plastic rockets in droves, leave the best bikes to those who have the courage to be different. These bikes arent sold in snazzy showrooms with slick salesmen, rather the dowdy back street shop where the shiny bike is smothered by a sea of rusting and lacklustre second hand dross.

So heres to you all, my long time friends and fellow bikers who dare to be different. And heres to my new steed......my MZ 1000 SF. may the force be with you

Guys, the MZ is a revelation... believe me, the fairing is phenominal. It is a similar story to the raptor, the biking press have given no support, naked tests come and go but the MZ is ignored as if it didnt exist.

Dont test ride one if you arent ready to stump up for one
