Raptor 1000 project
Re: Raptor 1000 project
I'm based in the Netherlands
The original swingarm is a bit flimsy if you ask me and the Mille swingarm also looks better.
The square angles suit the Raptor better.
It didn't cost much though, i've seen them for about €150

Expensive stuff!bazzywazz wrote:55 years agohttp://www.ebay.it/itm/piastre-di-sterz ... 2a501dc8dd
Probably cheaper to use GSXR parts.
Re: Raptor 1000 project
Here's a thought, what if I used the Raptor engine with tl1000r throttlebodies and wiring?
Still have to figure out how to solve the airbox but that's of later concern.
Are you also on the raptor topic on motor forum?

I do have a complete set of original raptor 1000 triples with bearings.Lexio62 wrote:55 years agoI'm considering the swing arm mod - but think the cost of it will probably out weigh any increase in performance.
'Crap Tartan' may have some triples for sale - not sure where you are based though?
I already have the RSV swinger fitted from a number of years ago and words of advice, before you get things like frame, swingarm and engine painted/finished, make sure they all fit together as the swinger is a close fit and I had to ruin my powdercoat on the frame to get it to fit properly and give clearance with full suspension movement. I also had to grind the rear of the engine a little to give full clearance at the swingarm pivot for the same reasons. The shock clearance to the swinger can also be a bit of an issue so this will need sorting before doing any finishing really.
There should be a full write up with pics from when I done it which was about 5 years ago.
The swinger is still fitted and looks the biz and all I have had to do is regrease bearings and linkages in that time.

As good as it looks, I think a proper race shock is better money spent. The ones raced in the UK and one raced here that was successful retained the standard swing arm. Geometry and suspension is the main focus.
Re: Raptor 1000 project
Good tips, thanks
Are you selling the triples, Tartan?

Yup, will sell them if you have a need for them.

I used that guide but it was originally in italian I think.ozzraptor wrote:55 years agoSome good pics here also

Luckily the kind folk on here translated the bits I needed to help me along.
Also the guide of where to remove metal from the swingarm for shock clearance was a little differant for me so i would advise doing a dry assemble first before you start hacking the swingarm to bits.
Get the swinger fitted first on the bearings and make sure it will clear the frame everywhere. Also consider the siting of the footrest plates and paraphenalia. I had small clearance issues with the main downtubes behind the swingarm pivot and the hanger loops to the rear of that.
Make sure the swinger has clearance at the rear of the engine, mine did not and had to grind little bits away there.
The shock wasnt too bad on mine mainly as I made up new triangles to help with the linkage and set the right ride height I wanted.
