Sharpener anyone? Advice on mods warmly received...

Post by Banners »

There's a newby Raptor owner (and newish biker) at the bar, keeping up the tradition. Great to see there’s such a strong community out there. I've wanted one for a couple of years and basically did my test so that I can ride one. Unfortunately, I will mostly be trapped inside the M25 midweek, but unleashed on the home counties (and beyond) when possible.

After months on a diet of beans and water, I've saved up my pennies and am due to take delivery of the new baby next week. A silver 1000. It's mostly standard, so any tips on mods will be much appreciated...

Am going to get myself a tail tidy. There are the Stage 2 and X-Rage units on ebay. Anyone tried these? Any good? £45 seems a little steep, but worth it?

Next, I’m going to need a tank protector. I know what you’re thinking, I shouldn’t be covering up that lovely paint, but this is a London bike and I don't fancy jealous scooters taking lumps out of me. The Bagster code looks like it is 1428… Is that right? Anyone got one of these? Seems like there are few different prices on the Interweb, so want to make sure I'm getting the right one.

I’m going to have to get the hangers repainted. I’ve been reading some of the threads here, clearly a common problem. Does anyone have some they fancy selling to me before I head off to the paint shop… in fact, can anyone recommend a paint shop in London(ish), lastly… does anyone know how I can match the colour? No offence taken if you simply point me to another thread.

Apologies for the long essay. Cheers for any and all comments.

Welcome to the Asylum,

Mine is completely standard (and scruffy) apart from a ventura rack so others are better placed to comment and advise, if you search for "paint codes" that should set you in the right direction

ooh and I'll have a tia maria in a coffee please :)

Hiya and welcome - were are a friendly lot

As your talking drinks mine will be a pint of IPA smooth please :drunk:

The paint is a bit of a bugger really, assume your on about the frame/ hangers? I tried to get the paint code matched up which was posted but alas noone could make head nor tail of it :(

In the end the guy painting my bits sent off to get the paint specially mixed and got it pretty damn close, especially as his first attempt was way way off

Since then this thread has started, not sure how close it is but if CT says its close I believe him and will be trying it out on my new ventura arms

welcome in and hope you enjoy the bike as much as the rest of us here do!

if you can cut and bend ally sheet then just make your own tail tidy, its a doddle!

I`ve never used or even seen a bagster cover on a rap so cant help there.

I had my hangers/pegs powdercoated as its more durable. There are pics on here showing them. They are up for sale although someone else is interested so they have first dibs. (I have fitted adjustable rearsets on mine now)

the paint I mentioned in that thread was a close match to my wifes 650ie and that looks to be the same colour as the 1000 but as we dont have it anymore cant really verify.

Evening. :)

Fairly new here myself, and only picked up my bike last week.

If you don't mind being a bit anti-social, then a pair of aftermarket cans will make it sound a lot better.

Bagster covers are often advertised on ebay - but enjoy the paintwork, and get it re-painted if it wears thin.

As for the hangers, you could always polish them instead. :)

I've already hit the grape juice this evening, so it would be rude not to have another. :happyhappy:

Hey Banners, welcome to the Raptor Chapter!

You've landed on the best site on the web for a Raptor owner.

Tomato juice and lime for me please

:bollocking: Don't tell a noob to do that, you'll scar em fer life

They aren't that great to polish, I'm well known for my polishing fetish, but the hangers on the ex's VRap beat me! The cast quality isn't great, so lots of tiny pinholes appear, even a pro can't get them all out with magical machinery
