Hi from second-time raptor owner

Post by anglo »

Hello

I have just bought my second Raptor 1000, having sold my first one 10 or more years ago. I almost bought an SV1000, then realized I actually wanted a Raptor again. This one seems to be a good one, and it's such a pleasure having a gearbox that doesn't clunk like a dustbin on downchanges (not mentioning any Griso gearboxes).

Is there a place on this site where I can put 'wanted' requests?

All the best

You could try posting in the "Classified Ads" section for what you're wanting, but tell me what it is you're looking for, I'll probably be able to find it with a google search. Also check out my post about finding parts http://www.raptorchapter.org.uk/viewtop ... =11&t=5010

Thanks for the reply, Aussiejoe.
Some may think it an abomination, but I can't do without a topbox. With my previous Raptor I bought the Givi topbox 'arms', which fix to the frame under the seat and stick out backwards to hold the topbox mounting plate, but I must have left them on the bike when I sold it and now Givi don't have any Cagiva-specific products on their website and I haven't been able to find anyone who stocks them.

The classified ads section will appear and allow you to post in it after you have written 5 posts I think but that figure may be wrong?
An admin will be along in due course to correct me if necessary.
Welcome in btw, who were you in your previous time on here as I have had mine for about 12 years now?

Tartan, I have just checked the reg number of the (new) Guzzi Jackal I traded my first Raptor in for, and it was an 03, so it was 15 years ago that I must have been mad. Time goes.
It is really good to ride a bike that is just so well-balanced. This one doesn't leap like a demented dog from a closed throttle like my previous one did. Maybe someone has redrawn the map or something.

I don't know how long this forum has been going for, but fifteen years ago I don't think I was aware of forums, and had computers etc. up to my eyes at work so I didn't spend my spare time on them.

Thanks a lot joe, that looks very interesting. Can't quite work out which rack I'd need in order to fit the top-box supports. I'll have to look at it for a bit longer. Thanks again.

Anglo, refer to this webpage https://www.ventura-bike.com/product/cagiva/Raptor-1000
You'll need the l-brackets part number C003/B*, fitting instruction are on this page https://www.ventura-bike.com/LBracket-C003-B
You'll also need Top box rack part number TBR30/B, fitting instruction on this page https://www.ventura-bike.com/LBracket-C003-B
And the Astro topbox https://www.ventura-bike.com/Astro-Top-Box-VTB1432-B

You just have to attach the top box base plate to the rack shown here, turn it upside down and the tube marked with the red circles fit in the l-brackets marked with the arrow

The bolts that secure the rack to the l-bracket will need to be cut off once tightened or people will be able to undo them and steal your topbox.

Welcome back to raptor-world! As your a second-time-arounder I just know you''ll be happy with her. And yes, the Suzuki TL1000S gearbox is the sweetest I've ever owned, like a hot knife through butter.

Thanks Aussiejoe, that makes it clear. I hope the asterisked parts are still available. The UK importer linked to the Ventura homepage (Motorhaus I think) hasn't replied to my enquiry.

Thanks Shebee and Spyke for the welcome. I agree about the gearbox. To me the engine in standard trim is spot on as well and I'm not going to change anything. The Raptor is also about 80 pounds lighter than my departing bike, which is a good thing.
