Alternator

Post by Wintermute »

Hi all,
Got a question for the knowledgeable out there, alternator is kaput, 19v across the battery, wiring smoking...
bought a replacement part, thinking the raptor was supposed to be a tl engine...this didnt fit, 1mm or so too big for the rotor, measured i need 115mm diameter, is this a tlr part? does it share similarity to an sv part?

In not an expert but 19v at the battery would perhaps suggest the regulator not the alternator?

In the workshop manual (free copy on here somewhere?)
It shows you how to test the regulator/rectifier and the alternator/stator so follow those and post your results.
I’m not sure it is a Suzuki specific part anyway, some electricals on the bike are exactly same as Suzuki and some are not!
When bike is running you can check the 3 phases of the alternator output, if this is ok and balanced then it’s probably the reg/rec.
One step at a time before buying replacements is the way to go.
